09:30 Visit Jeongdong Jeil Methodist Church
This is the first Methodist church in Korea called "Jeongdong Jeil Methodist Church". You will visit this church to know the history of Korea. This church was built in 1885, 5th of April by the U.S missionary Henry Appenzeller. He started this church as a first Methodist church in Korea. At that time, to evangelize of Koreans people was not allowed so He couldn't do any of church event publicly. It was the first Gothic styled building in the year of 1897, and it's republished as #236 National Cultural Property in 1977. Henry Appenzeller was the Rev. Pastor from 1885 till 1902, and he served as the principal of Baejae School, translated English Bible into Korean Language. He passed away in 1902 on the way back to U.S by crashing the boat. His wife who is Henry Dodge Appenzeller was a missionary and she was in charge of Baejae School in 1920 for 20 years. During Korean War, She was in charge of Korea Branch of International Christian Voluntary Association and supported Korean Churches.
After this, you will move to Baejae School Exhibition Hall.
10:00am Baejae School
This building was used for Baejae School, the first middle school of Korea by the missionary, Appenzeller. This building was the eastern building of the school.
In 1885, when the time of King, Gojong 22nd year, the pastor Appenzeller used the house of a doctor, Scranton and started and it was the first university of Baejae.
There was lots of well-known Koreans were graduated this school. You will visit this building to know the history.
11:00am Underwood Hall, University of Yeonsei.
This building is called "Underwood Hall' which is a part of the University of Yeonsei. Underwood was a name of U.S Presbyterian missionary who built the "Chosun Christian College" which is the previous name of the university of Yeonsei. When the school name changed to Yeonsei, Oliver Avison who was the first principal of the University of Yeonsei, built halls under the name of missionaries who lived in Korea at that time such as Underwood, Appenzeller, and Stimson. These buildings are in the record of #277 National Cultural property of Korea.
12:00pm Lunch at Sinchon Young Street.
13:00pm Yanghwajin Memorial Hall & Yanghwajin Foreign Missionary Cemetery Park
Yanghwajin was the one of the port at Han River. Nowadays, Yanghwajin is representative of the Foreign Missionary Cemetery.
You will visit the memorial hall and the cemetery of the missionary.
