Jeonju City is also known as the “City of Gastronomy” by UNESCO, as it boasts a variety of delicious dishes that reflect the local culture and history.
If you are planning to visit Jeonju City, you might be wondering how to make the most of your time there. In this blog post, I will share with you some tips and recommendations on how to enjoy the best of Jeonju City in one day.
Morning: Explore the Jeonju Hanok Village
The first stop of your itinerary should be the Jeonju Hanok Village, which is the most popular tourist attraction in Jeonju City. It is a traditional Korean village that has over 800 hanok (Korean-style houses) and various cultural attractions. You can experience the Korean culture and history by visiting the Gyeonggijeon Shrine, the Royal Portrait Museum, the Jeonju Korean Traditional Wine Museum, and the Jeonju Hyanggyo Confucian School. You can also rent a hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and take beautiful photos in the village.
The Jeonju Hanok Village is also famous for its delicious food, such as bibimbap (rice with mixed vegetables and meat), kongnamul gukbap (bean sprout soup with rice), and pungnyeon bakery (traditional Korean bakery). You can find many restaurants and cafes in the village that serve these dishes, or you can try making your own bibimbap at a cooking class.
Afternoon: Visit the Deokjin Park and the Nambu Market
After enjoying the Jeonju Hanok Village, you can head to the Deokjin Park, which is a beautiful park that features a large lotus pond, a musical fountain, and a sculpture garden. You can relax and enjoy the scenery, or rent a boat and paddle around the pond. You can also visit the Deokjin Art Museum, which showcases various artworks by local artists.
Next, you can go to the Nambu Market, which is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets in Korea. You can find all kinds of goods here, such as clothes, accessories, souvenirs, fruits, vegetables, seafood, and street food. You can also try some of the specialties of the market, such as hotteok (sweet pancake), sundae (blood sausage), and makgeolli (rice wine).
Evening: Enjoy the Nightlife at Gaeksa
The last stop of your itinerary should be Gaeksa, which is the main commercial area of Jeonju City. It is a lively place that has many shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, and cinemas. You can enjoy shopping, dining, drinking, dancing, or watching a movie here. You can also see some of the landmarks of Jeonju City, such as the Gaeksa Building, which is a historic building that was once used as a government office during the Japanese colonial period, and the Pungnammun Gate, which is the only remaining gate of the old city wall.
Gaeksa is also a great place to experience the night view of Jeonju City. You can see the colorful lights of the buildings and streets, as well as the illuminated hanok roofs of the Jeonju Hanok Village. You can also take a night tour bus that will take you around the city and show you some of the hidden gems.
